Shower problems in Aubrey homes: temperature swings, drips, low flow, and leaks
A shower you cannot rely on makes every morning harder. Vor-Tex Plumbing Co. repairs and installs showers and tub-shower combinations in Aubrey and across Denton County, as part of our fixture and appliance plumbing work. We handle valves, cartridges, showerheads, diverters, and drains. Call (469) 552-2881.
Match the symptom to the part
The temperature will not hold
A shower that swings between cold and hot, or never gets as hot as you want, often points to a worn cartridge or a pressure-balancing valve that is wearing out. Before you blame the valve, check whether the problem exists at the sinks too. If it does, the water heater may be the real issue, and our water heater repair page covers that.
It drips after you turn it off
A steady drip from the head or the tub spout means the cartridge or valve seat is not sealing. It is a small leak, but it is running water 24 hours a day and it wears the part down faster.
The flow is weak or uneven
Take the showerhead off and look at the screen. Debris from the line collects there, and the nozzles can clog. If the head is clean and the flow is still weak, the cause is likely in the valve, the supply stops, or the line behind the wall.
The diverter will not switch
In a tub-shower, water that keeps coming out of the spout when you want the head is a worn diverter. It might be in the spout itself or inside the valve.
Water where it should not be
A stain on the ceiling below a shower, a soft spot in a wall next to it, or tiles that feel loose are signs of a leak behind the wall or in the shower pan. Do not caulk over the area and wait. Call us so we can find the water source.
The shower drains slowly
Hair and soap collect in the strainer and the trap. We clear what we can reach. If the whole bathroom is slow, the issue is in the line, and our drain cleaning work applies.
Valve and trim replacement
A shower has two parts: the valve inside the wall and the trim you see, meaning the handle, the plate, and the showerhead. Replacing only the trim is simple. Replacing the valve is a bigger job because the valve is soldered or threaded into the supply lines behind the wall. We work with Moen, Delta, and KOHLER valves and trims, and the brand you already own matters: a matching trim is often a quick swap, while a different brand may need a new valve.
A newer valve can also give you a safer shower. Pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves help hold the temperature when another fixture runs. We explain which type you have and what upgrading would involve.
Installing a new shower or conversion
Adding a shower or converting a tub involves the supply, the valve, and the drain, plus the wall work around them. We handle the plumbing side and coordinate with your tile or remodel contractor on timing, since the valve and drain need to be set before the wall is closed up. Tell us what you are planning when you call, and bring plans if you have them.
Call right away if
- Water is coming through a ceiling below a bathroom.
- A valve is stuck open and the shower will not turn off. Shut off the water at the main and call.
- Water is bubbling up from the shower drain while another fixture runs. That points to a drain line problem.

Why older shower valves in Aubrey deserve a look
Aubrey grew quickly. According to Census data, 636 homes date from 2000 through 2009 and another 922 from 2010 through 2019. Many of those showers are now past the age when cartridges and seals commonly wear out, so a temperature drift or a faint drip in a house built in those years is usually ordinary age, not a defect in the house.
