A plumber that lives where you live
Vor-Tex Plumbing Co. is based at 3517 Riverside Drive in Aubrey, so an Aubrey service call is a short drive for us. We are a family owned local business, open 24 hours, and we offer same-day or next-day service. Call (469) 552-2881.
Two water systems in one town
Aubrey is served by more than one water supplier. The City runs its own wells in the Trinity Aquifer, while Mustang SUD supplies much of the area around town, including newer neighborhoods like Silverado. That split matters when something goes wrong. When an older main broke in January 2026, the resulting boil water notice covered City customers only. If you are not sure who supplies your water, your bill will say, and we can help you read it.
Soft water changes the advice
Lots of North Texas plumbing advice assumes hard water. Aubrey is different. The City’s 2024 water quality report shows total hardness of 5 ppm, and Mustang SUD’s 2024 report shows similarly low hardness for its groundwater. Scale is less of a problem here. We spend more time on tank age, corrosion, and worn rubber parts than on scale. If a salesperson tells you that you need a water softener because Aubrey water is hard, ask to see the water report first.
A fast-growing town with two plumbing eras
Aubrey’s median home was built in 2013, and Census data counts about 1,560 homes built between 2000 and 2019 and another 940 built since 2020. At the same time, the older core near downtown and the 1960s through 1980s housing still has the original plumbing.
- 2000 to 2019 homes: original tank water heaters are at or past their expected life, and rubber parts like toilet flappers and supply hoses are wearing out.
- Post-2020 homes: newer systems, usually under builder warranty at first, with repairs focused on fixtures, hose bibbs, and water heater service.
- Older homes near town: aging supply lines and drains where a repiping conversation can make sense.
Not sure which water system you are on?
Look at your water bill. If it comes from the Town of Aubrey, you are on the City system. If it comes from Mustang SUD or another district, you are not, and the City’s notices do not apply to you. This is the first thing we confirm on a call, because it changes what is likely to be wrong and how fast a main problem can reach your house. It also tells us what the water report for your address says.
Sewer, drains, and what not to flush
The City’s wastewater system runs 12 lift stations, and the City names wipes, grease, and roots as the main causes of stoppages. If you have a slow drain or a backup, stop flushing wipes, even the ones labeled flushable, and call us before the problem reaches the street.
Gas and permits
Both Atmos Energy and CoServ Gas serve Aubrey, and about a third of homes heat with utility gas. Gas line work needs to be done by a licensed plumber, and the City handles plumbing under its Trade Permit. We pull the permit when the job needs one.
Where Aubrey is growing
Aubrey was founded in 1867, and according to the City’s comprehensive plan request a fire moved downtown west of the tracks and a 1918 tornado destroyed most of the downtown buildings. Almost everything else you see was built recently. The Denton Record-Chronicle describes Silverado, a D.R. Horton community of about 1,500 homes with room for about 5,000, Sandbrock Ranch with about 2,400 planned homes, and Aspen Meadows with 312. Winn Ridge sits inside city limits. A newer proposal, Covey Creek at FM 428 and Coffey Road, announced 828 homes in September 2026 with lots due in 2028.
For a plumber, that growth means two things. Neighborhoods on Mustang SUD water behave differently from homes on the City system. And nearly 1,900 homes built since 2010 are still young enough that most plumbing calls are fixtures, hose bibbs, and water heater service rather than failed pipes.
Permits, inspections, and who to call
Plumbing work in Aubrey falls under the City’s trade permit, handled by Development Services at 107 S Main St, phone 940-440-9343. The City lists plan review at 10 to 14 business days, and inspection requests received by 3:30 p.m. are scheduled for the next business day. Not every repair needs a permit, but water heater replacements, gas work, and repiping generally do. We tell you when yours does and handle the paperwork.
Which of our services Aubrey homeowners call about most
- Water heater repair and replacement, especially in homes built between 2000 and 2019.
- Drain cleaning, including backups caused by wipes and grease.
- Leak and burst pipe repair after a hard freeze.
- Gas line repair and installation for the homes on Atmos or CoServ service.
Call (469) 552-2881 and tell us your address. We know the town because our shop is here.
When it freezes
Winter storms are the other big Aubrey plumbing event. Water in attic and exterior-wall lines expands as it freezes, and the flooding often starts when it thaws. Let faucets on exterior walls drip, insulate exposed lines, and know where your main shutoff is. If a pipe bursts, shut the water off at the main and call us any hour.
