Two utilities, one address: where your plumbing stops and theirs starts
Water in Argyle comes from Argyle Water Supply Corporation, a member-owned utility founded in 1963. It pumps from its own well field and buys treated surface water from Upper Trinity. It serves more than 4,700 connections, including Corral City, Bartonville, and part of Denton. The Town of Argyle does not provide water connections, per its FAQ.
Sewer is a Town service. Public Works runs the system, and the Town owns the main while you own the service line that connects your house to it. Treatment is contracted to the City of Denton and the Trinity River Authority, according to the Town’s wastewater rates page, and sewer charges are billed through the Town. So a water question and a sewer question can land with two different offices, and a neighbor in Bartonville may share your water corporation but not your Town services.
A backup in the lowest drain
When the tub or the floor drain nearest the ground gurgles or backs up, the cause is often a clog in your own service line. Roots, grease, and objects that should never be flushed are the usual culprits, and the Town warns residents about grease and foreign objects in the line. Public Works is at (940) 464-3449 on weekdays to check the main, and the Town lists its Police Department at (940) 464-7254 after hours. Water supply questions go to the water corporation at (940) 464-0518. If the main is clear, the stoppage is on your side of the property line, and that is work we do. See drain cleaning and sewer line repair.
Two soils in one small town
The ground changes across Argyle. A USDA soil data query we ran maps the Birome-Rayex-Aubrey complex at Town Hall on East Denton Street, with a maximum linear extensibility (a swell rating) of 4.5. At the water corporation’s office on FM 407 West, it maps Navo clay loam, with a rating of 7.5.
The higher the rating, the more the soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Clay that moves like that can stress drain lines buried in or under a slab, and it can strain supply lines too. Two houses a mile apart can have different problems. Warning signs are slow drains, a damp spot on the floor, a warm patch on a tile floor, or a water bill that creeps up with no change in habits. When the bill is the clue, leak detection finds where the water is going, and slab leak repair covers lines under the foundation.
The 1980s and 2000s homes: what age means for water heaters
The Census Bureau counts 1,784 housing units in Argyle, with a median build year of 2002 and none from before 1960. The 1980s are the largest single decade at 362 homes, followed by 354 from the 2010s, 316 from the 2000s, and 296 since 2020. A tank water heater typically lasts around a decade, so a 1980s or 1990s home is unlikely to still have its original unit, while the 2010s homes are reaching their first replacement window. In older homes, it is also worth having shutoff valves, supply lines, and fixture cartridges checked at the same visit.
Newer plans include Waterbrook (290 lots), Lakes of Argyle (139), The Oaks (107), and 5T Ranch (90), per a Town financial report. Harvest and Canyon Falls extend partly into Argyle’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Electric, utility gas, and propane
Of 1,684 occupied homes, 876 heat with electricity, 689 with utility gas, and 119 with tank or propane gas. The Town lists both Atmos and CoServ as gas providers, depending on location, on its utility providers page. That mix means a water heater call here can be an electric element, a gas burner, or a propane-fed unit, and the part you need depends on which. Check your fuel before you order anything. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas supplier or 911 from outside. For heaters, see water heater repair and installation.
Permits and inspections
The Town’s permit schedule lists plumbing systems and repairs as permitted work. A plumbing rough-in inspection includes a water test of the sanitary line, per the Town’s inspection FAQ. The permits office is at (940) 464-7273. We pull permits when the work calls for one.
Winter billing and freezes
Argyle has set sewer charges from winter meter readings, as the Cross Timbers Gazette reported in 2021. A hidden leak or a faucet left dripping in winter can therefore raise the sewer part of your bill for months. The same story noted that the water corporation reported no serious problems in February 2021, though residents’ dripping raised worries about tower levels.
Pipes were another matter at school. Argyle ISD had a burst pipe at Hilltop Elementary and a frozen sprinkler head at the middle school that month. DFW later logged 58 straight hours at or below freezing in January 2026. If a line splits, shut off the main and call us. Our burst pipe repair page covers the rest.
What a visit looks like
When you call, we give you an arrival window. On site we look at the problem, quote before any work starts, and show you the work when it is done. The $79 dispatch fee is credited toward the repair when you approve it, and parts we supply carry a 5-year warranty on parts and labor.
