What sewer line repair typically costs in Aubrey and Denton County
Sewer line work is the plumbing job where the price varies the most from house to house. The pipe is buried, so the cost depends less on the pipe itself and more on what has to be dug up to reach the damaged section. The ranges below are conservative and wide, because that is the honest answer before we have looked at your line. We confirm the price on site, and you approve it before any digging starts.
| Job | Typical range (estimate) | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanout installation | $300 to $900 | Depth, concrete or landscaping in the way |
| Spot repair of a short damaged section | $1,500 to $5,000 | Depth of the pipe, length of the failure, surface above it |
| Replace a longer section of the line | $4,000 to $10,000 | Footage, depth, access for equipment |
| Replace the full run from house to the tap or tank | $6,000 to $15,000 or more | Total length, depth, crossing a driveway or tree roots |
| Repair at the connection to the city main | $2,000 to $7,000 | City requirements, depth, and traffic or street work |
| Surface restoration (sod, small landscape or flatwork) | $300 to $3,000 | What was removed and what the city or HOA expects |
These ranges are for planning. The price you approve is the written estimate we give you at your home, before any work starts.
How the $79 dispatch fee works
A $79 dispatch fee covers sending a licensed plumber to your home to find the problem and give you an estimate. When you approve the recommended work, the $79 is applied toward your repair total. On a sewer problem, that first visit is how we work out whether you are looking at a clog or a failed pipe, so you do not pay for a repair you do not need. Nothing starts until you have seen the price and said yes.
What moves a sewer repair price
- Depth. A line that is two feet down is a much shorter dig than one at eight feet, which needs shoring and more time.
- Length of the failed section. A single cracked joint is a spot repair. A line that has settled and sags along its run may call for a longer replacement.
- What sits on top. Open grass is the simplest. A driveway, patio, mature tree, or sprinkler system adds cutting, patching, or careful hand digging.
- Pipe material. Older homes may have clay, cast iron, or Orangeburg pipe. Newer homes use PVC. The old materials can fail along long stretches, not just one spot.
- Soil. Clay soils in this part of Texas swell and shrink with the weather, and that movement can shift or crack buried pipe over time.
- City rules. Some cities require a permit or an inspection for sewer work. We confirm what yours needs and include it in the estimate.
Signs a repair, and not a cleaning, is the answer
Repeated backups, gurgling drains, a sewer smell in the yard, a soggy or sunken patch of lawn, or slow drains in more than one fixture can all point to a damaged line. A pipe that clogs every few months is often one that has roots or a low spot holding debris. Our sewer line repair page walks through the signs in more detail. If your drains are only slow and the line is intact, drain cleaning may be all you need, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a dig.
Whose pipe is it?
If your home is on city sewer, the private line from your house to the tap at the main is usually yours to maintain, and the main under the street belongs to the city. If you are not sure where your responsibility ends, we can help you figure it out on the visit.
Common add-ons
- A cleanout installed at the same time, so future service is easier
- Replacing a damaged section of pipe beyond the original problem area
- A backwater valve, where required or recommended
- Permit and inspection coordination
What to do while you wait
If you suspect a damaged sewer line, cut back on water use. Skip long showers, laundry, and the dishwasher until we have been out. If sewage is backing into the house, call right away. We are open 24 hours, and a main line that is failing can send wastewater into the home faster than most people expect. Do not pour chemical drain cleaner into a line you think is damaged, because it will not fix a break and it leaves harsh liquid in the pipe.
Why you want a price before the digging starts
Digging is the expensive part of sewer work, so you want the price in hand before anyone starts. Our estimate states the scope of the dig, what is being replaced, and what is not included. If the answer turns out to be a cleaning and not a repair, we say so. If the failed section is larger than it first looked, you will see that in the estimate and not on the final bill.
