A dripping faucet in Aubrey wastes more than you think

One drip a second adds up to thousands of gallons a year, and it also stains the basin and wears the fixture faster. Vor-Tex Plumbing Co. repairs and installs kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and utility faucets for homes in Aubrey and across Denton County. It is part of our wider fixture and appliance plumbing work, and it is usually a same-day or next-day job. Call (469) 552-2881.

What the faucet is telling you

Most faucet complaints trace back to one worn part. This table is a general guide to what we usually find before we open the handle.

What you seeWhat it usually means
Drip from the spout when the handle is offWorn cartridge, washer, or valve seat
Water pooling around the base or handleFailed O-rings or a loose packing nut
Weak or uneven streamClogged aerator, or debris in the cartridge
Handle is stiff or looseWorn cartridge, or a stripped set screw
Hot and cold are reversed or mixedCartridge or supply lines installed or worn out of order
Wet cabinet under the sinkLeaking supply line, shutoff valve, or the faucet’s own connection

Cartridge, ball, ceramic disc, or compression

The inside of your faucet decides what the repair involves. Older two-handle faucets often use compression washers that wear down against the seat. Single-handle faucets use a cartridge, a ball, or a ceramic disc. Parts for common Moen, Delta, and KOHLER models are easy to source. Parts for off-brand or discontinued models may not be, which is the most common reason a repair turns into a replacement.

Repair or replace

  • Repair when the faucet is sound and one part has failed. It is quicker, and you keep a fixture you already like.
  • Replace when the body is pitted or cracked, the finish is peeling, the faucet has been repaired more than once, or you simply want a new style or a pull-down sprayer.

We install faucets from brands such as Moen, Delta, KOHLER, and American Standard. If you are choosing, ask us which valve design is simplest to service later.

What an installation involves

A faucet swap is more than turning a few nuts. We shut off the supply, remove the old unit, and check the shutoff valves and supply lines under the sink. Old stops that will not close fully are common, and we tell you if one needs replacing so you are not stuck the next time you need to shut water off. We then set the new faucet, connect the lines, and run it with you watching so you see there is no leak at the connections.

Kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and outdoor faucets

Each location fails in its own way. Kitchen faucets get the heaviest use, so cartridges and pull-down hoses wear first. Bathroom faucets tend to fail at the aerator and the pop-up linkage. Laundry and utility faucets sit unused for long stretches, and their seals dry out and crack. Hose bibs outside have their own problems, and we cover those under exterior plumbing repair.

When to call right away

  • Water is spraying or running under the sink and the stops will not shut it off. Close the main shutoff to the house and call.
  • A faucet handle has come off and water will not stop.
  • A cabinet floor is soft, swollen, or smells musty.

A note on water in Aubrey

The City of Aubrey’s 2024 water quality report lists total hardness at 5 ppm, which is soft water. That means mineral scale is a smaller cause of clogged aerators and stuck handles here than it is in harder-water towns. When a faucet fails on a City of Aubrey supply, age and wear are the usual causes, so a new cartridge often solves it for good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth repairing an old faucet?

Often, yes. A drip is usually a worn cartridge, washer, or seal, and those parts cost far less than a new faucet. If the body is corroded, the finish is failing, or parts for that model are hard to find, replacing it makes more sense. We tell you which one fits before we start.

Can you install a faucet I already bought?

Tell us when you call so we can plan the visit. Bring the box and instructions to the door if you have them, and we will check that it fits your sink and supply lines before we install it.

Why is the water pressure low from only one faucet?

When only one tap is weak, the cause is usually a clogged aerator or a worn cartridge or supply line at that faucet, not your whole house. If every fixture is weak, call and we will look at the house supply. See our leak detection page if your water bill has also jumped.

What does the $79 dispatch fee cover?

It covers sending a licensed plumber to your home to look at the faucet and give you an up-front estimate. When you approve the recommended work, the $79 is applied toward your repair total.

Is the work under warranty?

We provide a 5-year warranty on parts and labor when we supply the parts. Ask about the details when you call (469) 552-2881.
